Housing Report Just Out - The latest picture of distress

Laurie Goodman and her team at Amherst Mortgage Insight had a great article about the real state of the distressed housing situation in America.
1 in 5 - 20% of American homeowners - 20 people out of every 100 are in deep trouble.
Of those 20 people:

9 are way, way behind on their house payments and will never catch up and will be in foreclosure fairly soon.

6 have fallen behind are are really trying to catch up, but their outlook is gloomy.

5 are very deeply underwater - they owe 20% more than the value of the home they are trying to pay off.
